The storyHow they got there

beehiiv was founded by the team that built and scaled Morning Brew's newsletter infrastructure. They knew exactly what newsletter operators needed because they had been newsletter operators. That insider credibility was the foundation of everything.

The growth strategy was to fish where the fish were: frustrated Substack creators. Every limitation Substack had — limited analytics, no ad network, rev share on subscriptions — became a beehiiv talking point. They wrote comparison content, showed up in newsletter creator communities, and let their product speak on the features Substack ignored.

The "recommend" feature was their viral hook. beehiiv newsletters could recommend other beehiiv newsletters at the bottom of each issue, sending subscribers cross-platform. Each successful newsletter creator recommended beehiiv to peers, and those peers arrived pre-sold.
